The Way of the Cross: Tenth Station

Tenth Station: Jesus is stripped of his garments

Scripture

“And after they’d nailed him to the cross, they divided his clothes between them by the throw of the dice. Then, sitting down, they guarded him” (Matthew 27:35-36).

Meditation

In the dream, I am naked before them—
clothes forgotten or ripped and hid away—
exposing every wrinkle, fold of flesh
to the noonday sun where I am revealed
to be more human than anyone else.

Prayer

Jesus, before we drive in the nails, we must expose you for who you really are. You dare to be someone other than the One we expected. And in the power you granted to us, we dare to use it to unmask you, to show the world your offense in your desire to serve than be served, to love our enemies than punish them, to forgive rather than be our righteous judge. As we continue on our way, strip us, expose us for who we are so we might become more like you. We ask because no servant is greater than the One they serve. Amen.

And now...discuss.
