Twelfth Station: Jesus dies on the cross
Scripture
“And after Jesus had tasted the sour wine, he said, ‘It is complete.’ Then he bowed his head and let go of his spirit” (John 19:30).
Meditation
So, that’s it, is it? That’s all you came for?
A few sick made well, blind granted their sight,
teachings that confused more than clarified?
Like gluing a vase while the house falls down.
And you have left us with our clumsy hands
to continue rebuilding what we broke.
Trusting us with what we failed to do right
in the garden. As if by your dying,
we could somehow be different than before.
Prayer
Crucified One, in agony you declared our redemption complete. The brokenness that fractured our world when we betrayed you at the tree in the Garden met healing in a bloodstained tree at Calvary. In your Incarnation, life, and death, you healed what we could not, made whole what we could never reconcile. Remind us as we walk your Way that we have nothing more to do than receive what you have done and allow the good work you have completed to begin again in us. Heal us that we may go forth into the world declaring the love you have for all. Amen.
